Vulnerability post alert!

My first memories are of getting ready for nursery with stomach cramps every. single. morning.

I had a few years during primary school when I felt more secure and the horrible pain at the pit of my stomach wasn’t there.

But it came back with a vengeance when I was 10 years old and in the space of 4 years we moved away from my friends and from two schools I loved.

My family and I moved to the south of England which now, as an adult with a family of my own, I absolutely love … but at the time seemed a big, scary, emotionally cold place to be.

And then starting secondary school was when I felt I was swallowed up into anonymity. I was with loads of other children, in big size classes and a different teacher for each subject at a time when my hormones were raging and I put so much pressure on myself to do well and be the best because of the perfectionist I was. I hadn’t a clue how to alleviate the worry, the fear, the sadness, the frustration so I buried my head in my studies because, looking back now, that was probably one of the few things I must have felt I could have some control over, to an extent.

All the pain without the technology and social media messages that our children are bombarded with today!

Each child is different and there’s the whole nature versus nurture debate (personally I think it’s a combination of the two).

But what I can say, hand on heart, is that I have been there…and OVERCOME it, and I can at least begin to understand your child’s pain, listen closely, and teach them strategies to cope in a safe, confidential space.

They won’t always be teens and will become adults one day, but why go through all the worry, frustration, anger and anxiousness they’re experiencing right now? Why continue living this way for a moment longer?
